If you’ve been feeling under pressure for some time, you could be
increasing your risk of cancer, shows new research from
Dalian Medical University in China.
In the study, scientists found stressed mice had a greater number of
cancer stem cells, and faster-growing tumours than a control
group. Cancerous cells thrive on a compound called lactate
dehydrogenase, a by-product of the stress response, but the good
news is, when the stressed mice were injected with vitamin C, it
blocked the production of lactate dehydrogenase and the tumours
shrank again. Yet another reason to up your vitamin C intake.
