British researchers have developed a vaccine to no longer be allergic to cat hair. His particuliarity ? It is injected directly to the cat.
A vaccine called HypoCat
Cat allergies are a very common problem in France. Various medical and natural treatments exist to relieve and control symptoms once the allergy has developed. However, these therapies are often ineffective.
Scientists have developed a vaccine to stop the allergy to cats. The HypoCat vaccine helps neutralize the Fel-d1 protein found in cat hair that causes sneezing, itching and asthma.
An injection for the cat
No worries for those who are afraid of needles since it is the cat that must receive the vaccine and not the man. The researchers noted that after vaccination, 54 cats produced effective antibodies to destroy the Fel-d1 protein.
This protein is present on the skin and in cat's hair. It is also found in the salivary glands, but also in the lacrimal glands, sebaceous glands and anal glands. The study will be published soon in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. This vaccine, which should be released in three years, will also allow cats not to be abandoned when owners suffer from allergies, which unfortunately happens quite frequently.
